Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things
by William McDonough
Discussion led by Dr. Jia-Yi Cheng-Levine, SDC
Cradle to Cradle:
Remaking the Way We Make Things, co-authored
by one of the most influential, internationally famed
architecture on green buildings William McDonough, is a book
that will change our way of looking at everything we see or hold
in our hand. Publisher Weekly describes the main
argument of this book as, "Our industrial products are simply
not designed with environmental safety in mind; there's no way
to reclaim the natural resources they use or fully prevent
ecosystem damage, and mitigating the damage is at best a
stop-gap measure. What the authors propose in this clear,
accessible manifesto is a new approach they've dubbed
'eco-effectiveness': designing from the ground up for both
eco-safety and cost efficiency." This book discussion opens the
discussion on sustainable construction and ecological design,
the topic for SDC's first Fall 2008 panel.

planet is facing. This fair will also include vendor booths,
featuring products that are produced in accordance to principles
of environmental sustainability. Whole Foods Market will
co-sponsor the event with the SDC. To date, approximately 20
schools have been invited to participate in this event, focusing
